Going Into the Reseach for Preemie Music Therapy
For the next couple of weeks, we were reading all the scientific articles from music therapists, psychologists and listening to all the actual music and noises used in the field of premature baby music therapy, because the idea to just simply take all the compositions from my husband from our own baby music albums (4) and make one album from it was now for us more questionable.
Will it really work? Is that not still to complex? Will the transition from one composition to another not be disturbing? Should we rather do a completely new musical project for premature baby’s needs?
With the idea to create a therapeutic music fell on us parallel a big and a heavy feeling of responsibility and all the mixed emotions: what lead shall we follow? Whom shall we believe? What can really help premature babies? What is with the development of ears? Even if is it not developed are the vibrations enough? In what situations are they in hospital? What are the sounds surrounding them?
After a time, we came to the conclusion that we must visit a Neonatal Hospital unit and spend time there to have an insight of the daily lives of the preemies and to have a real view of the circumstances surrounding them. Equipped with microphones and all the machines for recording we were granted a couple of hours in the NICU unit to record and register all the environmental noises surrounding them.
